Public Use

Rockefeller Wildlife Refuge (RWR) annually hosts ~150,000 recreational users.  Popular activities on the refuge include crabbing, cast netting for shrimp, fishing, and birding. The refuge is open for public use from sunrise to sunset daily.  Areas open for public use vary by season (see maps below).

Refuge Regulations - This link provides the rules and regulations for public use on RWR.  Unless noted otherwise, all other state          recreational fishing regulations should be followed while on the refuge.
Refuge Map - This link provides a detailed map for public users of RWR.  Green and Orange colored canals are open all year,                while Purple and Blue canals are closed Dec 1 - March 1.
Interactive Map - This link is an interactive map to be viewed in GoogleEarth (note you must install GoogleEarth to view this file).          Color coding is similar to map above.
Vehicle Accessible Areas - This link provides more information about recreational opportunities to vehicle accessible areas.

Alligator Program - This link provides information about the Alligator Program with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and                Fisheries, including information about tag allocations, permits, and regulations.
